This 100 page reference manual provides a step-by-step approach to creating
support groupsfor women and new parents. It describes a well-tested model
which is highly effective with low-income pregnant women and new mothers,
teen parents, pregnant women in recovery,
grandparents parenting their grandchildren, and foster parents. The manual
includes the training curricula from a four year project which trained
400 providers from perinatal health settings throughout California and
Oregon to organize and facilitate support groups for over 4000 low-income
women. A focus of the project was to train people of color to facilitate
groups for their own communities.
